The
police says that they have launched extensive investigations into a
brawl which is said to have erupted between police officers and two
individuals including the Vice Chairman of the Buttala Pradeshiya Sabha.
The police said that two police officers on traffic duty in the
Okkampittiya town have stopped and inspected the motorcycle on which the
Vice Chairman was travelling.
A senior officer in charge of the
area said that an argument has taken place regarding another individual
accompanying the Vice Chairman without a helmet.
This has resulted in a brawl between the two parties.
The police said the two police officers on duty have been injured during the conflict.
They have later been admitted to the Buttala Hospital.
The senior police officer said the police officers have also allegedly
fought back which resulted in the Vice Chairman of the Buttala
Pradeshiya Sabha sustaining injuries.
A special investigation has been launched into the incident under an assistant superintendent of the police.
