PHIs in NCP to launch strike Wednesday


tl57Public Health Inspectors (PHI) in the North Central Province (NCP) plan to launch a continuous strike from Wednesday to protest the actions of the provincial health officials. Deputy Secretary of the Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka (PHIUSL), C.S. Muthukuda has told local media that the strike will be launched to protest the allegations of embezzlement leveled against the General Secretary of the Association, A. M. Senarath Bandara.
The union official said the health officials in the North Central Province were acting against the interests of the PHIs' union and Bandara was given a transfer without a proper inquiry of the charges. According to the President of the union, Upul Rohana the General Secretary has made a complaint against the Regional Epidemiologist (RE), of the Polonnaruwa District for pilfering the transport allowance given to him. However, the provincial health officials have transferred PHI Bandara and kept the RE who is alleged of misappropriation of allowances.
