The farmers from different areas will
offer the first portion of their harvest to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi at
the ceremony. The ceremony will commence with a procession in the
morning. Chief Minister of North Central Province S.M.Ranjith said that
the festival has been held uninterruptedly for 46 years.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister told the
state-run radio that the fertilizer subsidy being provided by the
government has now been given uninterruptedly for 17 cultivation seasons
and Sri Lanka has achieved self-sufficiency in rice now. A large number
of people who left farming in the past have now rejoined farming
activities and a vast area of abandoned paddy lands is also being
cultivated at present.
