The
parliament has organized special sittings for Tuesday and Wednesday to
debate and pass 11 financial bills that were pending from last month.
The approvals of the bills were delayed since they were pending before
court. The government presented 21 bills before parliament last month
seeking approval before March 31st. However, 11 financial bills were
challenged in the court. The bills are aimed at implementing certain
recommendations made in the 2013 budget.
Main
opposition United National Party (UNP) plans to oppose the bills while
the JVP has objected to the financial bills and the manner in which they
were tabled in the House.
Value
Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill, Nation
Building Tax (Amendment) Bill, Finance Bill, Betting and Gaming Levy
(Amendment) Bill, Tax Appeals Commission (Amendment) Bill are among the
11 bills to be debated next two days.
