Govt to form authority to regulate Buddhist publications

BuddhistThe government has taken measures to regulate publications on Buddhism to prevent publishing material with distorted information, Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Chandra Prema Gamage said.
The government is to establish a Buddhism Publication Regulatory Authority to regulate the publications on Buddhism and the authors will have to obtain approval of the board before publishing.
The new authority will comprise four representatives from the three main Buddhist chapters, academics of universities that have faculties on Buddhist studies, principals of Vidyodaya and Vidyalankara pirirvenas (Sangha schools), a representative with a substantial knowledge named by the Minister of Buddhist Affairs and a representative of a reputed Buddhist organization nomianted by the Secretary of the Ministry. The parliamentary act in this regard has already been drafted and it is ready for implementation, the Commissioner said.
